CORINTHIAN CANAL – ANCIENT OLYMPIA

Corinthian Canal: Man-made canal connecting Aegean and Ionian Sea, completed in the 19th century. It is approximately 6.4 kilometers (4 miles) long and renowned for having steep cliffs along with the engineering importance placed on it.
The canal saves ships from the long sail around the Peloponnese peninsula and therefore is a vital sea route.
Ancient Olympia: Birthplace of the Olympic Games, in western Peloponnese. It has significant archaeological remains, including the Temple of Zeus, the ancient stadium, and the various altars and workshops.
Ancient Olympia was an influential religious center, dedicated to Zeus, and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site attracting visitors with interest in Olympic history and ancient culture.
